Sports Facilities
Modern education lays great emphasis on supplementing mental exercise of the classroom with physical activities of several types outside the classroom. Apart from work-outs and yoga, sports activities provide excellent exercise to various body parts and are highly recommended by experts of Physical Education. Sports are extremely important not only for physical activity but also for developing certain attributes such as team spirit, leadership skills, and decision making. Importance of games for students has been a concern for the founders of Shia College who allocated a big piece of land for playground. The college playground has been an important venue for various intercollegiate competitions. It was in 1983 that the College first organized its annual sports event named SHIAD which was a memorable milestone in its sporting history. Recently the playground has been upgraded by constructing a new cricketing pitch and a pavilion in the Imame Raza Block. This stadium has been renamed as King Naseeruddin Haider stadium to pay homage to the erstwhile king of Awadh who built a Karbala Trust which later donated land for the construction of existing campus of Shia College. The newly built stadium was inaugurated on February 16, 2020 by Padmashri Mr Mujtaba Husain Kirmani, the great wicket keeper of Indian Cricket team who was a part of Team India that clinched the World Cup title of 1983.
The students of Shia College are doing great in sports and
keep winning laurels for the college in various sports events at the level of University
and State. Every year the college organizes an intercollegiate ‘Khateeb-e-Akbar
Moulana Mirza Mohammad Athar Cricket Tournament’ in memory of our great
visionary and patron who always emphasized the importance of sports for
students. Besides, SHIAD sports meet
which was discontinued has been revived and is an important annual sports event
