About Shia College
Shia College is one of the premier institutions spreading the light of learning and knowledge to a large number of students under the management and control of the Board of Trustees of Shia College and Allied Institutions. Following the traditions of Islam, as practiced by its Prophet and his successor, the College has served all the communities without discrimination, maintaining high standards of secularism and patriotism from its very inception.
The College provides all the basic amenities and facilities to the students. Some of the important features are as follows:
Innovation and creativity in teaching-learning
At Shia P.G College, the focus is not just on the conventional teaching learning methodology, but more importantly fostering innovation and creativity in every aspect of academic delivery and learning. At Shia P.G. College, classroom experience keeps on getting continuously redefine with the inputs received from various stakeholders.
The Faculty follows a student- centric procedure by creating a learning environment which allows students to think, seek and answer. We strongly believe in promoting faculty creativity and innovation without being suppressed by rigidity of a system and at the same time ensuring that certain academic parameters and standards are observed and maintained without compromise. Such an approach is essential in making the College a best in class.
The faculty follows blended, collaborative and experimental techniques of teaching-learning pedagogy leveraging infrastructure and technology resources to ensure effective curriculum delivery.
Academic Strategy
An extensive academic plan and review mechanism ensures the management of curriculum is done simultaneously on individual and institutional level.
- Time-table is well prepared before the commencement of each semester sticking to the University stipulation for each and every subject.
- Preplanning of the pedagogy by concerned faculty is used for every single session by means of Lecture Plan and schedule.
- Although lectures are the common teaching method, this is supported by assignments, group discussion, role playing, brain storming sessions, field work, study tours, industry visit, organizing presentations and projects.
- Self-study mechanisms in the form of projects and presentations are encouraged.
- Various subject areas of content beyond the syllabus are being taught to students in order to have additional knowledge and develop skills.
Detailed lecture-wise schedule and course material (notes, excel sheets, PPTs, case studies) are prepared by the faculty for the subject matter allotted to them.
Infrastructure and Facilities
- Library: Central Library of the college is known as “Khateeb-e-Akbar Maulana Mirza Mohd. Athar Library” which is well-equipped and efficiently maintained library with a computerized user-friendly KOHA filing system, functions as an invaluable aid to every aspiring scholar. The Library employs the LIBSYS computerized library management system and several terminals are provided for students and faculty members to search for books/journals online.
The Library presently boasts with impressive stock of around one lakh books, including some rare ones. The general library with its open-rack system, spacious reading room and reference section provides an atmosphere conducive to academic work. The Library staff is always available to assist students in finding material needed for their course work and other related pursuits. Web Junction Internet access is provided free of cost to all students and faculty members at the Web Junction in the library. Digital Library/E-library facility is also provided through inflimnet. - Smart Classroom: College has mostly classroom equipped as smart classroom which focus on ICT hardware and software, smart/ interactive boards with audio-visual equipment.
- Wi-Fi Campus: The entire campus is enabled with high speed internet to allow the students to access the internet no matter wherever they are. Wi-Fi is not only restricted to classrooms but also extends all the areas including library, reading rooms, auditorium etc.
- Full CCTV Coverage: The system comprises a number of fixed and fully functional CCTV cameras located in buildings and externally around the College's grounds. These are monitored by appropriate personnel.
- Laboratories: The laboratories in the Science Faculty are well-equipped with the latest instruments and apparatuses which are essential for proper scientific education.
- Museums: The Zoology, Botany and Anthropology Departments have separate museum with rare and valuable collection of animal fossils and plants collected from various parts of the country in the annual excursions undertaken by the staff and students of the College.
- Botanical Garden: College has one Botanical Garden under the control of Botany department, where rare species of plants, medical plants and other sessional plants have grown.
- Computer Center: The College has a Computer Centre with labs equipped with modern and updated computer systems, Wi-Fi connectivity and electronics laboratory.
- Sports and Games: Since its Inception College has been striving for academic excellence, and at the same time sponsoring varieties of activity that would contribute to the wholesome development of personality and promote health among students. Sports and games are one such area promoted by the University with an intention of ensuring physical, mental and emotional health of the student community.
- King Naseeruddin Haider Cricket Stadium with natural turf Pitch and pavilion.
- Other Facilities 200 M. Track & Field, athletics, Football Ground, Volley Ball Ground, Kho-Kho & Kabaddi Courts, Badminton Court.
- Indoor Sports Facilities: Turf Floor Badminton Court, Table Tennis and Carrom.
College organizes inter collegiate cricket tournament and inter faculty sports meet with the name "SHIAD" every year. College Participates in all other sports meet organized by Lucknow University or any other colleges.
- Cafeteria: Canteens and cafeterias are one of the important parts of student life where we can find most of students chatting and gossiping on different topics. It plays a vital role in removing tensions and refreshing students. The college canteen is fairly new and provides enough and delicious food at affordable rates. The cafeteria remains open on all working days. It provides all types of nutritious and hygienic eatables and beverages to cater to the students, staff and visitors.
- Health and Wellness Clinic: Our aim and goal is to keep students physically and mentally healthy, so that they can succeed in college and life. For this very purpose college has newly constructed Health and Wellness Center known as Hazrat Abu Talib Activity Center. We provide Yoga, Meditation, Gymnasium, Physiotherapy, and Aerobics.
- Audio Visual Studio: College has its own well equipped sound recording Lab., video editing lab and studio for television and radio software production. We have state- of-the- art Audio -video editing console, professional audio recording facility with latest soft wares, for having the first hand experience to our students. Our non- linear editing studio is equipped with all the latest electronic equipment and editing soft wares such as Avid and Premier.
- Seminar Halls: The Khateebul Iman Hall and the Saeedul Millat Hall are two big Seminar Halls/Auditorium of the College is well equipped Seminar Hall catering to the academic needs of the College.
- Moot Court: The exercise of mooting is one of the highlights of every law curriculum. It teaches students skills quintessential for solving legal problems. With this objective in the mind College has constructed air conditioned Moot Court hall in the name of Imam Hazrat Ali known as “Imam Ali Moot Court” to develop the interests of students in the activity of mooting, facilitate students to understand intricacies of legal research, acquire sufficient stronghold over the utilization of online legal databases, organize research to crisp and clear legal propositions on the issues presented in a moot proposition which finally culminates in to a clinching argument in a moot court competition.
- Data Resource Cell: Shia College Data resource cell is developed as a facility for automation and implementing software solution. It is also preparing database for faculty, non-teaching staff and students of the college. SCDRC is a user management module for logging creation of various levels and their management. It is a online bridge between university and students.
- NCC and NSS: College has Army and Naval wings of N.C.C. under the control of N.C.C. Officers. The students of B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. may join the N.C.C.
The College has five units of NSS. In order to give students a practical training in social service and to familiarize them with the needs and problems of the weaker sections of the society.
- Extra-Curricular Activities: Apart from the excellent academic curriculum, the college also gives paramount importance to the extra-curricular activities. College organizes cultural and intellectual activities throughout the year to provide exposure to the students in fine arts, literature, music, theatrical art, ecology and environment. College organizes inter collegiate youth fest with the name of 'EXPRESSION' every year. College Participates in all other cultural meets organized by Lucknow University or any other colleges and won a glorious amount of prizes. College has literary, dramatics, art and craft, community culture, innovative and melody clubs to enrage the creative side of our students.
- Green Initiative: College has grave concern on environment issues and catastrophic climate change. We are committed to fight and reduce carbon emission in whatever way college fraternity can.
- Student Council: Student council at Shia P. G. College is an organization conducted by the students under the supervision of the teachers. The purpose of the student council is to give students an opportunity to develop leadership qualities by planning and organizing various activities and service projects. The student council the voice of the student in various bodies.
- Scholarship and Financial Assistance: S.C./S.T./O.B.C./Minority students are granted scholarships by the U.P. Govt. on the recommendation of the Principal. Financial assistance is also granted by the U.P. Govt. to other deserving and poor Students. Poor and deserving Students are also given aid from the Students Aid Fund of the College.
- Career Counseling and Job Placement Cell: The cell provides required guidance to student in selection of their career and better job opportunities. The Career Counseling and Job-Placement Cell of Shia P.G. College, Lucknow is intended primarily to assist students in their career planning and provides information that helps the students to give a direction to their aspirations and interests.
- Alumni association: The College has established Alumni association with the objective of creating a network of Shia college alumni spread the entire world. The alumni association is organizing alumni meets, seminars and submits to cater the common goals of the patrons of the college.
Student Support and Individual Care:
- Feedback System: College strictly followed the process of feedback systems to revise and redesign education quality from the stakeholders.
- Mentor Mentee system: We at the college truly believe that if students have placed their trust in us for their personal and professional development, it is for us to take charge of their grooming and mentoring in every perceivable area of their development. The aim of this system is Identifying strengths and weaknesses in academics and devising ways and means to help-build competency on and off campus hours.
- Religious Teaching: The study of Shia Theology is available for the Shia Students of the College. Highly qualified Ulemas give regular instruction in the theology after the regular hours of the College and such religious functions which are an integral part of Shia faith are also organised under their guidance.
- Remedial classes: College believes in student centric method of education so continuously strives to locate the problem faced by each student in academics. Remedial classes serves most powerful tool for those student who cannot maintain their pace with other students.
- Extension activities: Students are the part of society and they should be most active member of society transformation. College is well aware of this fact that students should take the social issues to areas, community and involve them to make them concern on these issues.
- Grievance Redressal Committee: The College is committed to providing safe, secure and nurturing learning environment to the students. For this grievance redressal committee has been set up in the accordance with UGC regulations, 2012. It provides mechanism to the students for redressal of their grievances on academic and non academic matters.
- Parent Teacher Meeting : Parents teacher meetings are organized each year with an objective to bring the college and home together for uplifting of the students as well as institute by maintaining harmonies relationship between parents and teachers
